Fuel Contamination

There are many types of fuel contamination found in gas oil, it only takes one of these contaminates to negatively affect your stored fuel supply.

Contamination can either be caused by something foreign entering the tank, such as particles and water which then develops microbial growth, or by the fuel itself degrading and producing sludge and damaging molecules.

Whether it's free, emulsified or dissolved water, this type of contamination is arguably the most damaging contaminate to find in the fuel as it can be rapid and cause long term damage to engines.
Water can causes many other contamination chain reactions, the risk of microbial growth increases.

With the right conditions, microbial growth will occur at the fuel & water interface. A large layer of sludge can form quickly and block filters. Complications with fuel stability and tank corrosion can also occur.

From their side additives emulsify or separate water (free or dissolved) and have various actions against contaminants (residues, particules, bacterias ...).
Finally, water, particules and bacterias will remain in the fuel despite the use of additives and will head to the fuel injection system and the combustion chambers to potentially causing breakdowns, or degrade the combustion and foul the engine as a minimum bad effect.
